“When you talk about the Husky tradition — endurance, passion, pride, tenacity and toughness — it all started in the late 1950s.” –W. Thomas Porter
The first peak of one of the country’s great football programs came in 1960, under the coaching tutelage of
Bear Bryant protégé Jim Owens. That season the 7-point underdog Washington Huskies went 9-1 en-route to
the Rose Bowl, where they toppled the mighty Golden Gophers of Minnesota to win the national title.
That was the season UW fully arrived.
And over half-a-century later UW’s football program remains one of the most respected in the country! As part
of our University of Washington Campus Legends line, we have this vintage tee that just dropped, throwing
back the championship roots!
